Sustainable & Healthy by Design

In 2021 the building was the first in the state of Florida to receive the WELL Platinum Certification, earning the highest designations in the areas of health and well-being, as well as energy and environmental performance.

Site hardscape and roofing elements are designed to have high reflectivity and reduce the urban heat island effect of development. Rainwater management design also minimizes runoff and local water system disruption. The site lighting is designed to minimize light trespass beyond the site boundary and reduce light pollution.

The building maximized the diversion of construction wastes from the landfill throughout the building process. To the greatest extent possible, the building included materials and products with environmental disclosures around content, health and safety, and supply chain transparency.

The building promotes alternative modes of transportation and efficient travel through features including bike racks, priority parking for carpool vehicles and electric charging stations. We are also located on a mass transit line – the Palm Tran public transit bus system.

When selecting building materials, we sought to minimize those that emit volatile organic compounds. Construction was conducted in compliance with an indoor environmental quality plan to ensure that dust and other pollutants that may have been created during construction did not remain in the finished space. Upon completion, the indoor air quality was tested prior to occupancy to verify that indoor pollutants remained below specified levels.

The building’s interior design promotes occupant health through complying with ergonomic best practices, conducting periodic ergonomic assessments of staff workspaces, and providing training on ergonomic best practices. In addition, 75% of regularly occupied areas have a view to the outside, promoting a connection with nature and improving indoor environmental quality.

The Carrier Center for Intelligent Buildings is filled with our own energy-efficient technologies including Carrier heating and cooling equipment, Automated Logic building automation and analytics, and more. The building also features LED lighting systems with customized controls and a 350kW solar PV array, and we purchase renewable energy credits for 100% of our expected energy consumption.
